As part of the Constellation program, taking place throughout the renovation of the Centre Pompidou, Auxerre is hosting—for the fourth consecutive year—an exhibition drawn from the collection of the Musée National d’Art Moderne. It is presented in the Saint-Germain Abbey – Cité de la parole et du son, a heritage gem of the city.

The venue

The history of Saint-Germain Abbey is marked by the voices that have passed through it—dialogues shaped by its diverse inhabitants: the austere words of monastic communities, the enlightened teachings of the Auxerre School, and the comforting, healing words of the civil and military hospital. Drawing on this legacy, the Cité de la parole et du son invites reflection on the role of voice and expression in today’s society: what artistic trends are emerging in contemporary creation? How can a work—through its poetic, questioning, surprising, or festive dimension—allow individuals to experience a decisive moment and find the means to express their emotions?

The Abbey thus fosters an environment conducive to artistic creation and dissemination, offering residencies for writers, researchers, and artistic teams, along with masterclasses, creative workshops, and public events. It also serves as a regional hub in Bourgogne-Franche-Comté for exhibitions and highlights in digital arts and electro-acoustic creations.
