On the occasion of the publication of his latest essay, Roussel et le Cinema ("Le cinéma des poètes" collection by Nouvelles éditions Place), the Centre Pompidou extends an invitation to Érik Bullot, the film-maker and theorist.
"Discovered by the Surrealists, the literary work of Raymond Roussel maintains a curious relationship with the seventh art. We are not sure if the writer ever entered a cinema. It is nevertheless possible to find the cinematograph in his fictions in the form of rebuses or allegories, with a multiplicity of references to optical puns, projection and tableaux vivants. His work is a marvellous testimony to the way poets invent a cinema by other means above or below its system. Let us cast an eye back on how artists and film-makers have been directly or indirectly inspired by his work." Érik Bullot
Érik Bullot is a film-maker and theorist who recently published Le Film et son double (Mamco, 2017) and directed the publication Du film performatif (Éditions it, 2018). He is finishing the editing of a film on the recent history of Catalonia, Octobre à Barcelone.
