Petro National #16 (Nigeria)

The Petro National project consists of 196 works depicting the outline of a country in the form of a small patch of oil on the surface of the ocean.

John Gerrard created an algorithm that recreates the effect of refracted light on oily surfaces, which varies according to their thickness. For each NFT, this is defined by the annual oil consumption of the country represented in an ecological and geopolitical reflection on the distribution of wealth and power. Following the launch of the project, 25% of the profits from the sale of the works have been donated to a company dedicated to countering climate change.
