Le Ballet mécanique [version Kiesler]
1923 - 1924
“Pictorial error is the subject. Cinematic error is the scenario.” (Léger)
The Mechanical Ballet derives its innovative force largely from the anti-lyrical flattening of the objects. This operation is conducted by means of extremely precise montage which takes the photogram and not the plan as its unit. The fragmentation thus obtained is reinforced by the use of caches and prisms that produce kaleidoscopic effects. Cubist thinking is reflected in the multiplicity of points of view for the same object and the near-constant use of close-ups.
