Taking in performance, photography, video, drawing and installation, VALIE EXPORT’s protean work is concerned with the representation of the body and identity. Close to the Viennese Actionists she uses her own body as working material. In the 1970s she began an investigation, through photography, of the relationship of the body to urban and rural space. In Körperkonfiguration the artist places her body in an urban landscape, like a living sculpture, highlighting the spatial perception intrinsic to the body and exploring the possibilities of positioning it in space.
