La Boîte-en-valise
1936 - 1941
"Everything significant I have done would fit in a small suitcase".
ln 1934, Marcel Duchamp undertook a retrospective examination of his work. Yet, true to his nature, this task was not weigh heavily on him. He came up with the idea of a box in which "all [his] works would be gathered together, like a miniature, mobile museum". ln a dual position as salesman and curator of his work, Duchamp thus characteristically avoided the traditional role assigned to the artist.
