Like raw skin, this work evokes the living, arousing both attraction and repulsion.
Eva Hesse is associated with the American Anti Form movement which developed in reaction to the excesses of minimalism. In 1966 she began to produce her ?rst sculptures composed of soft organic forms made of malleable materials (rope, plaster, papier-mâché…). This work, one of her last ones, was made by assistants while she was in hospital. Seemingly stretching up to the sky and at the same time sinking into the ?oor, the pillars are made of fibreglass and resin, giving them a translucent aspect and evoking the fragility of the body.
