In 2024, the Centre Pompidou and the Arkas Sanat Foundation started a fruitful partnership to establish the Lucien Arkas Sanat Merkezi, the seventh art centre in the cultural network developed by the Foundation in Izmir. Building on the success of its opening in 2026, the partnership will continue over the next five years, with two exhibitions drawn from the French national collection and conceived in dialogue with the Turkish foundation’s programming themes.

Lumina: The Art of Color and Light
26 September 2026 – 14 February 2027
Bringing together 83 works from Centre Pompidou’s collection, "Lumina" explores how modern and contemporary artists have engaged with colour. More specifically, it examines how colour can create an impression of light and movement through various optical effects. From the Fauves to Op Art, via photographic experiments and the Colour Field movement, right through to contemporary works, the exhibition invites visitors to reflect on the active role of vision.
"Lumina" opens the "Color and Light" season (September 2026–September 2027) at the Lucien Arkas Art Centre, whose multidisciplinary programme encompasses not only the visual arts but also film, music and the performing arts. This first exhibition will be followed by a second, "Through Color", running from April to September 2027.
Founded in 2011, Arkas Art aims to contribute to the cultural and artistic life of Izmir through a network of seven art centers, each dedicated to a different artistic period and presenting selections from the Arkas Collection alongside national and international exhibitions. Together, these series of art centers foster a sustained cultural ecosystem across the city, strengthening access to art, encouraging dialogue between different artistic narratives, and embedding contemporary cultural production into Izmir’s urban fabric.
Lucien Arkas Art Center opened to visitors in April 2026 in Izmir’s Bayrakli district. As the seventh destination along the Arkas Art route spread throughout the city, the center is conceived as a hub for international exhibitions and collections, as well as educational programs, screenings, conferences, cultural events, and gatherings. Located within the retail section of the Mistral Building, a prominent business and residential complex, the center offers 1,110 m² of exhibition space, complemented by a conference hall, foyer, workshop, and office areas.
