As part of the Constellation programme, which unfolds throughout the Centre Pompidou’s renovation period, Palazzo Bonaparte—a historic Baroque venue dedicated to art in the heart of Rome—hosts a major new retrospective organised in partnership with Arthemisia. Drawing on the Centre Pompidou’s exceptionally rich holdings, the exhibition offers a comprehensive overview of the work of Vassily Kandinsky, one of the leading figures of modern art and a pioneer of abstraction.

A retrospective dedicated to à Vassily Kandinsky (1866-1944), one of the most influential artists of modern art and a pioneering figure in non-figurative painting, freed from all reference to the external world. Structured in five chapters and featuring around seventy works, the exhibition traces his early figurative paintings, the emergence of abstract art in Munich, his return to his native Russia during the revolutionary period, his years in Germany as a teacher at the renowned Bauhaus school, and finally his last exile in Paris.
Gifts, furniture, personal objects and archival documents from the artist—drawn from the Centre Pompidou’s collection, the world’s most comprehensive holding of Kandinsky’s work thanks to donations and the bequest of his widow, Nina Kandinsky—transform the exhibition into an intimate immersion in the artist’s life.

Renowned for its iconic green balcony, from which Maria Letizia Ramolino, Napoleon Bonaparte’s mother, observed the life of the Eternal City, the palace still retains the elegance and character of its distinguished past. Since 2019, under the programme curated by Arthemisia, a leading company in the organisation and production of major art exhibitions in Italy and internationally, the palace has entered a new chapter in its history, becoming one of the country’s foremost exhibition venues. Its galleries have hosted landmark exhibitions including "Impressionists" (2019), "Van Gogh" (2022), "Bill Viola" (2022), "Escher" (2023), "Botero" (2024), "Munch" (2025), "Mucha" (2025), and "Hokusai" (2026), alongside contemporary art and photography exhibitions devoted to artists such as "Jago", "Mario Testino", "Elliott Erwitt", and "Carole Feuerman". Together, these exhibitions have attracted a broad and diverse audience through a rich programme of high-quality cultural offerings.
Today, Palazzo Bonaparte is a vibrant cultural destination, successfully combining the preservation of its historic heritage with a contemporary vision of culture. Its exhibitions, events and educational programmes—with particular attention devoted to families and young audiences—have established it as a leading institution on the artistic scene.
