Diogo Pimentão

Diogo Pimentão demonstrates the expansive potential of drawing-based media.  Some of his works on paper are formed and shaded with graphite; this thoroughly applied mineral imparts the surface with a metallic sheen. These shimmery sheets are then folded and layered to form structures that appear to be composed of welded metal as opposed to pencil and paper, often engaging directly with the architecture where they are shown. By altering perceptions of materiality and space, his works invite viewers to reconsider their surroundings, shifting their understanding of depth, weight, and structure through the act of looking and moving within the exhibition space.
